ATLANTA, GA – Stewart Cink is making his first appearance at the TOUR Championship since 2010. At 48, he’s the oldest player in the field.

Cink qualified in large part thanks to his two wins this year.

To win once at his age is no small feat. Two wins at his age, at any age, is extremely impressive. Only FedEx Cup Points leader Patrick Cantlay has more victories this year with three.

Thanks to the staggered scoring system now used at the TOUR Championship, Cink’s #23 position has him starting nine strokes off the lead.

Referencing his win at the 2004 RBC Heritage Classic, Cink joked, “Well, I made up nine shots in one round in 2004. I don’t see why I can’t do it in four rounds. It seems real easy, doesn’t it?”

Adding a more serious note, he said, “It’s a little daunting to know that you’re playing against the best players of the year and you have a nine-shot deficit before you even tee the ball up. But to be honest, I think if I was a thousand over I would still be happy to play here.”

It’s a comment that is easy to believe. No player at East Lake seems more content and comfortable in his own skin than Stewart Cink.

Perspective is a wonderful thing. Cink has it in spades.

Will he win the TOUR Championship this week? Given his starting position, it’s highly unlikely. But never count Stewart Cink out.

“We don’t really have anywhere to go but up,” said Cink. “So why not just go out there and give it everything and see how well we can focus and battle this golf course for four days and give it all and then we can rest after this?”

We’ll be watching, Stewart.
