L.A.B Golf is really good at helping golfers make more putts. They make the best putters on the market. But their putters have been known as much for their unusual looks as they have been for the strokes they save. That challenge has been met with the introduction of the Link.1.
I won’t keep you in suspense, L.A.B. has rolled out another winner with the Link.1. But first, in case you aren’t familiar, let’s have a quick history lesson on L.A.B putters and the science behind them.
The acronym “L.A.B.” stands for Lie Angle Balance, the fundamental concept in the design of L.A.B putters. Lie angle refers to the angle between the shaft of the putter and the ground when the putter is in its address position. The Lie Angle Balance concept involves a fitting process where the lie angle of the putter is adjusted based on the individual golfer’s setup and stroke. This is why the fitting process is key when purchasing a L.A.B. putter. The putter that works for me may not work for you.
But what does Lie Angle Balancing accomplish? Does it help you make more putts? In a lie angle balanced putter, the typical torque (twisting of the putter head) experienced during a putting stroke is eliminated. The elimination of torque absolutely helps golfers make more putts!
The science behind Lie Angle Balancing is absolutely real. L.A.B putters tend to stay square during the stroke, whereas traditional putters (toe hang and face-balanced) begin to twist as soon as the stroke begins.
But L.A.B. putters have always been a bit strange looking. I personally have no issues with the company’s flagship model, the Directed Force 2.1, or the Mezz.1. I own both and have always enjoyed putting with them. We’ve given positive reviews to both right here in Southern Fairways. Adam Scott and, more recently, Lucas Glover have had great success with the broomstick versions on the Mezz.1. It has been a career revitalizer for Glover.
The challenge for the L.A.B team has been to fit all the required technology into a more traditional looking putter. They’ve accomplished exactly that with the Link.1. If you have been interested in benefitting from the technology that L.A.B. putters offer, but prefer the look of a traditional putter, then the Link.1 is your answer.
Just like with the Directed Force 2.1 and the Mezz.1, there is zero torque with the Link.1. No longer will you have to manipulate the putter to get it square at impact. L.A.B. putters stay square throughout the stroke! Make sure to watch L.A.B. CEO Sam Hahn demonstrating the Link.1 in the “revealer video” below. The science is real!
I’ve been a believer in L.A.B. putters since 2019 when I first tested the Directed Force. My toughest decision is settling on which one to use. I love them all! I’ve been using the Link.1 for most of this year and I love the look, the feel, and the results!
As with all L.A.B. putters, the customizing options are almost endless. The length and lie are key, then choose your grip, alignment aid, and shaft to your desire. The team at L.A.B. Golf is amazing when it comes to customer service, so don’t hesitate to reach out to them with any questions.
If you’d like to be a better putter, then go to labgolf.com and read more about their amazing line of putters. And make sure to get fit! The online fitting process works great, and you can also search for a fitter near you.
