Auburn Men's Golf Team Wins National Championship

The Auburn Tigers have won their first ever NCAA Men’s Golf Championship title. In a thrilling match-play final against No. 6 Florida State, the top-ranked Tigers prevailed 3-2, securing the victory at the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa.

The championship match was every bit as competitive as expected. Florida State struck first, with freshman Tyler Weaver and graduate student Cole Anderson securing victories. However, Auburn’s Jackson Koivun and Brendan Valdes responded with dominant wins, setting the stage for a dramatic finish.

The spotlight fell on senior J.M. Butler in the anchor match against Florida State’s Luke Clanton. With the pressure mounting, Butler stayed steady and won the deciding match with a par on the 17th hole.

“I’ve got a great group of young men,” said Auburn head coach Butch Clinard. “We’ve got six of the best players in the country, and great leadership with Alex Vogelsong. They went out there today and got the job done.”

For Auburn, this championship marks the culmination of a remarkable season. They dominated the SEC Championship, triumphed in their NCAA Regional, and finally, conquered the national stage. The Tigers have cemented their place among college golf’s elite, leaving a legacy that will inspire Auburn golfers for years to come.
