The University of Arkansas Razorbacks defeated the Auburn University Tigers on Sunday morning on the Sea Island Resort Seaside Course to win their first SEC Men’s Golf Championship since 1995.
Auburn’s Brandon Mancheno got things started in the finals with a blistering round and a 6&5 win over Arkansas’s Mason Overstreet. Mancheno played his final five holes in six-under par.
Arkansas’s William Buhl evened things up with a 3&2 win over Auburn’s Jacob Solomon.
Tyson Reeder put the Hogs out front with a 2 up win over Trace Crowe.
Jovan Rebula and Luis Garza were all square going into the final hole. The both missed the green wildly on their approach shots. Neither player was able to get up and down, sending the match into extra holes.
Meanwhile, Julian Perrico of Arkansas and Grayson Huff were headed to the 18th tee. Perrico’s solid drive set him up with just a wedge into the green, which he hit to 15 feet. Huff drove into the fairway bunker and was unable to reach the green in regulation. Huff chipped short and missed his par putt leaving Perrico with two putts to win the hole, the match, and the SEC Championship. He lagged to two-feet and tapped in the give Arkansas their first SEC Men’s Golf Golf Championship since 1995.
Now the Razorbacks and the Tigers turn their attention to the National Championship which will be played May 24-29 on their home course, the Blessings Golf Club in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
