About the Southern Fairways Golf Tour
The Southern Fairways Golf Tour (previously the GCGA Tour) is a series of golf tournaments throughout the Gulf Coast area. The tour is open to amateur golfers and local PGA Club Professionals. Tournaments are flighted, giving each player the opportunity to compete against golfers of similar ability.
Scoring is based on a Modified Stableford Format. Our 36 Point Format is explained below. We use this system so that one bad hole doesn’t ruin a good day. It also helps with pace of play. If a player can’t make a bogey or better on a hole, he should pick up. No points will be earned on the hole, but there will be plenty of other opportunities to make up for it!
All Payouts will be in CASH in 2024 – 1st, 2nd & 3rd in each flight
New in 2024 – $10 CASH GAME
You can “buy” any player in the field for $10.00 in cash on the day of the event. Buy as many players as you’d like.
You must pick the OVERALL WINNER (Most Over Quota from the entire field) to win. Ties will be split.
What Makes The Southern Fairways Golf Tour Different?
- Stableford Format (36 Point System)
- Point Quotas are averaged throughout the year. We feel this is the best way to keep it fair for all players.
- Players without an established handicap or welcome to play. We will work with you to establish your initial point quota.
- Most players will play from what is typically the “member tees” at most courses (6,000 – 6,300 yards). Seniors are designated as players age 65, or players who will turn 65 during the season. They may play from the designated Senior Tee (typically 5,400 – 5,700 yards) as long as their handicap is 10 or above.
- Players earn SFGT Cup points during the year. The SFGT Cup will be awarded to the player with the most points at the end of the year.
- The Top 20 players on the SFGT Cup points list will be eligible to play in the SFGT Team Challenge at the end of the year. This is our “Ryder Cup” style event.
- We use “live scoring”, which allows the players to view the scoreboard on their phones during each tournament.
- You don’t have to join the tour to play in our events, but members do receive a number of benefits. The 2024 membership is available HERE.
SCORING:
The SFGT Tour uses a Modified Stableford Scoring System knows as the 36 Point System. Each player has an individual point quota which is determined by subtracting their handicap from 36.
Example:
Player A has a handicap of 8.
36 – 8 = 28
Player A has a Point Quota of 28
Scoring:
Double Eagle: 10 Points
Eagle: 7 Points
Birdie: 4 Points
Par: 2 Points
Bogey: 1 Point
Double Bogey or More: 0 Points
