There are some very exciting things happening at Tiger Point Golf Club. Capstone Golf bought the course in February from the City of Gulf Breeze.

The first step for the new owners was to improve the quality and playability of the greens. We had an opportunity to play Tiger Point recently and really enjoyed the putting surfaces.

Capstone also brought in architect Nathan Crace of Watermark Golf to give Tiger Point an update.

“Every golfer in the Florida Panhandle and in South Alabama has heard of Tiger Point,” Crace explains. “In its prime, everyone in the area had Tiger Point in their rotation of courses to play.” In recent years, however, those expectations began to slip. “When the City of Gulf Breeze decided to sell the course last year,” Crace continues. “The first thing the new owners asked themselves was ‘How can we make Tiger Point unique and return it to its destination golf status?’ That’s how our conversation began.”

The scope of Crace’s work includes a naturalization and turf reduction program, as well as a complete bunker renovation. The early results are impressive. Once completed, Tiger Point will feature a more “coastal look” that is fitting for a course on the Florida Panhandle.

During our visit, you could really see the vision of the project on holes 1, 17, and 18. Large areas of turf in areas out of play have been removed. Natural grasses will be planted in these areas.

I have little doubt that Tiger Point is headed in a direction that will once again make it a “must play” on the Florida Gulf Coast.  In fact, I’d recommend that you schedule your tee time now.  The renovations that are taking place will not affect your play at all and the course was in very nice condition. The tee boxes and fairways were all very well maintained, and the greens were rolling nicely!

The staff is very friendly and helpful and the pro shop is stocked with just about everything you might need. You won’t return to the clubhouse at the turn, but you’ll have two chances to visit the “Tiki Hut” – after holes 7 and 14. The Tiki Hut has a very nice selection of food, snacks, and drinks.

Local entrepreneur Scott Zepp purchased the clubhouse at the same time Capstone bought the golf course. The clubhouse is currently undergoing extensive renovations with plans to open before the end of 2001.

Check back with us to keep up with the exciting progress happening at Tiger Point. In the meantime, visit tigerpointgolf.com to schedule your tee time.
